Tsuge Blowfish Pipes

The Tsuge Metal series Blowfish is a diminutive design, but one that packs a lot of style, and a lot of functionality into its modest dimensions. The chamber is quite small, clearly intended for short session smokes, or a bit of slow-burning folded flake. However, unlike most pipes designed around similar drilling, this one is far from delicate. There's plenty of substance to the briar, which is then clad with metal on either flank, plus a military mount is thrown in so you can break it down in a pinch, even while still hot, without any worries about damaging a shank. On top of all that, the clean, simple cylindrical bowl shape allows it to sit perfectly steady. The Tsuge (pronounced roughly "Su-gay") pipe company is led by pipe maker Kazuhiro Fukuda, who has been carving for the company for nearly 60 years. Initially, they produced pipes out of ivory and briar which were all classic shapes that were small and stained dark. Kazuhiro went to Denmark in 1969 to work with Sixten Ivarsson for a month and Sixten was able to teach him how to hone his innate skill, which he took back to Japan to help the company become famous the world over.
